The Power of Storytelling

I believe in the power of storytelling to provoke empathy and engagement, model optimal performance, outcomes, and deliver key learnings and messaging for the purposes of marketing, sales, and personal and professional development.

I’m a published cookbook, short story and poetry author, a script and storyboard writer, blogger, and former language instructor.

I specialize in experiential learning with expertise in change management, organizational development, marketing for learning, leadership competencies, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, and the human condition.

My delightful mix of artistic and academic traits ensures I am a dynamic and versatile writer to work with. I have a voice… but I can write in yours.

I’m an intuitive and disciplined worker who loves to collaborate and build long-lasting relationships with my clients.

I worked with Wendy on a collaborative charity cookbook, ‘Eat Your Heart Out, Halifax!’. Wendy managed all aspects of the book’s production, from sourcing a printer to content design, and despite the fact that she was working from a different province to myself all commitments were met (and often exceeded) on time, to a very high professional standard, and always with a fantastic and supportive attitude – and a much-appreciated sense of humour. I would love the opportunity to work with Wendy again, and I would not hesitate to recruit her services or make a recommendation to anyone to do the same.”

My (very abridged) Story

I have an English literature, Dance and Theatre Arts background and have performed on stage and on-screen. Creative writing, poetry, spoken word, and performance art followed me through every decade either for work or as a hobby.

I’ve lived in the UK, in China, and in a few cool and cold Canadian cities, now calling Toronto my serendipitous home.

Check out some of my published works:

In 2007 I co-founded a not-for-profit publishing company which raised funds for food security initiatives in Western Canada. Through its unique design, they reflected the community spirit of the neighbourhoods, promoted business improvement associations and local restaurant favourites while raising funds for local charities.

We expanded partnerships with Maritime Heart Health in Halifax, generating over $20,000 in donations.

The BIG ART BOOK, by Scarborough Arts, is an anthology of visual arts and literature, published as a companion to the Annual Juried Exhibition. The book features one of my poems and two watercolour paintings.

Canadian Tales of the Heart, published by Red Tuque Books features short stories from Canadian emerging writers. The publication features my love-gone-sour short story: Black and Blue.

In this edition of the Niagara Branch of the Canadian Authors Association Annual Poetry Anthology I was awarded Judges’ Favourite for my poem depicting the life during Spring thaw of a logging truck driver from Prince Rupert to Prince George.

This edition of The Banister features a poem I wrote describing the experience of a girl who runs away from her urban life and tries to set up a homestead with no skills, and must borrow from the traditions of the Metis and Ukrainian people of the Prairies.
